The Past Week...

School is so unbelievably enjoyable. The days are filled with so much fun. The amount of play throughout their day is amazing. I have started to take over more which is exciting. This week I will be teaching math and reading. The kids are respecting me more and are listening to my rules more often. They love the games we play such as Simon Says and Heads up Thumbs Down. They crack me up with how much they laugh at the littlest things! I am so very much enjoying my classroom experience so far.

I headed on a field trip on Tuesday with some year 6 girls. We went to a stadium where they got to play carnival games. This was the girls reward because they worked hard to have the littlest amount of cars possible drop off students at school. Most students rode their bikes or walked, instead of using a car. The girls worked very hard to help our planet.

I had another field trip on Thursday which was Athletics Day. This day is filled with a variety of track events to get the kids moving. I worked the discus station and kids came around and took turns throwing. It was a beautiful day filled with a lot of fun. I think it is so cool that the whole school took part in this activity. It was a great way to engage the students and to show them parts of a sport they may not have been aware of.

On Friday, Theresa and Dan (our host families daughter and boyfriend) took us to Bethel's Beach. It was absolutely amazing! The views were so beautiful. The water was very blue. We hiked up a hill to see over the ocean. It went for miles and miles until it hit the sky. The waves were huge and surfers were out surfing. We hopped in the water even though it was freezing cold. It felt nice to get in the water! The beach was filled with black sand and there were a lot of shells. We headed back home and picked up pizza and pasta. Yum! I will miss that restaurant when we go home. It was a fabulous way to end our Friday.

Saturday we took the ferry to Waiheke Island. It was supposed to be rainy but it held off for us! This island is more expensive to live, compared to where we have been. We explored the island and checked out the multiple wineries and vineyards. The views were outstanding! The land was so green and you could overlook a variety of animals such as horses and sheep. The food we ate was delicious, I got a steak while the others got fish & chips. Our view for lunch was overlooking the ocean. Even though it was windy, it was worth it. It was so pretty! We walked on a sand and looked for shells. It was a relaxing way to end our day before we headed back home.
